Coraline Jones is a young girl with workaholic parents that tend to neglect her. She has been uprooted to a new house in another city and doesn’t adapt well to the new environment. But she makes friends with the landlady’s grandson Wyborn and with a black cat.
One day, Wyborn gives Coraline a doll he found in his grandmother’s trunk. It has button eyes and looks weirdly like her. The doll leads Coraline to a hidden door in the living room that has a bricked-up passage behind it.
That night Coraline is woken up by a mouse. She follows it and sees the hidden door is no longer a bricked-up passage but a portal that leads to a parallel world. Coraline moves through the portal and finds herself in a strangely idealized version of her own world.
Here she meets another version of her parents, both with button eyes and the complete opposite of her parents as they are loving and caring. After living in a frustrating home, Coraline feels bored and visits the other world twice again, not realising the sinister secrets it holds.
On her third visit, her “other mother” invites her to stay forever. The only condition is she must have buttons sewn on her eyes as well. Coraline runs away, horrified, but her “other mother” captures her and locks her up in a room behind a mirror.
There she discovers the truth about this world and how her other mother, or The Beldam, has reaped many other victims in time and sewing buttons on their eyes ripped the souls from their bodies. The Beldam then hid the souls in different parts of the parallel world.
Coraline will have to save the victims, among which are her real parents, by tricking The Beldam.
There is nothing better than watching a film in the comfort of your own home. So, online streaming seems the best way to watch this story of Coraline Jones.
